Quartzsite, 2011

We made it to Quartzsite, Arizona this year.  Although this is not Carol's favorite place in the world, she agreed to go this year.  If you have never been to Quartzsite, it is one of the largest Rock, Gem, and RV shows you will ever see.  If you like swap meets you would love this place.  You could spend a week just covering all the swap meets in the area.  I like it for the beauty of the area.  Here is one of the sunsets here.

We had some friends camp with us here.  They are into gold mining.  They brought a few friends with them and one of them owns several mine clams here in Quartzsite.  We were all able to come along with him to the mine which is off limits to the general public.  Once in the mine, Jerry and Mike started to use there metal detectors on the mine walls looking for gold.  I followed them into the mine taking pictures.

I noticed that as we walked, it felt like we were walking on some type of cushion floor.  When I took my flashlight and looked down at the ground of the mine, it was loaded with Cholla Cactus.  We made our way out of the mine quickly and here are some pictures of the shoes of Jerry who was just ahead of me in the mine.

Turns out that the Local Rats like to carry the Cholla Cactus into the mine.  It protects their nests from predators like snakes, and animals from coming into the mine.  Doesn't seem to stop some dumb humans though.  Actually it did.  That was the only mine we went into the rest of the day because they were all loaded with the stuff.

It was a fun week here.  Besides checking out the RV shows and exhibits we did some 4wheeling and exploring of the area.  The Kofa mountain range is very beautiful.  The weather was fantastic all week long.

We will be dry camping for the next week in the area and then we will be back at Emerald Cove for two weeks  We hope to connect with our daughter Dani in Phoenix at the end of February.
