Yuma, Arizona 2016

We are back in Yuma with several of our Missionary Friends.  We are staying at one of our membership campgrounds called Yuma Lakes. We have gone to several attractions while in Yuma. Here are some of them.

We went to Cocopah Speedway for the Winter Nationals.

It's a dirt track but they get going really fast around the track.

While I was on an ATV ride I spotted these Big Horn Sheep.  

As you can see the one of them had a great set of horns.

                                                       The Old Plank Road
Used between 1914 and 1927 there were two different designs used.  This was the only way to get across the sand dunes in an automobile during this time.

                               This is a section of the old Plank Road that traveled over the desert.

This was the first version used.  The problem with this design was it was too easy to run off the planks.  Vehicles would
run off and get stuck in the sand.  Later on they came up with the design below.

Although this design was easier to navigate across the sand, it was a much bumpier ride.  The first design you with the grain
of the planks where in the above version you rolled across the planks making it much bumpier. It was stated in one of the passengers journal that their were nuts, bolts, mufflers, tailpipes and just about anything that could rattle and come off a car strewn all along the route.

This hole in the wall is actually a neat find.  They make a great lunch and date shakes.

Yuma is loaded with farm fields.

Next stop will be Phoenix Arizona for a few days followed by Green Valley Arizona just south of Tucson for two months to be with the new Grand Baby and Family.
