San Diego California, Home Sweet Home!

We left San Diego California on January 3, 2011 on the second leg of our journey across the United States.  On February 9, 2012 we arrived back in San Diego, one year, one month, six days and approximately 11, 350 miles later.  This is about one year ahead of our planned arrival here. 

Our original plan was to spend the winter in Florida, then travel back up the eastern coast to visit the reminder of the eastern states we missed. That was the plan until one Sunday in Tennessee when we met a great couple at Church.  We seemed to have a lot in common with each other.  They invited us over to their house for dinner one night and we talked about the Service Mission they had performed.  They showed us pictures, told us of camp stories, and the wonderful people they met and served with along with the life long relationships they made. 

Carol and I have always wanted to serve a Mission, but we thought it would be after we were finished seeing the United States.  We pondered and prayed about the Mission and decided to put our plans on hold and serve the Lord now.  We accepted a Service Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at the Heber Valley Camp. 

The Heber Valley Camp is being created by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to serve the needs of Young Women, families, and Church groups in central and northern Utah. This beautiful camp is located on a spectacular tract of land covering more than 8,000 acres in the mountains southeast of Heber, Utah. Elevation of the camp ranges from 7,500-10,000 feet.

The first two camps were completed and first used during the summer of 2003. Additional camps have been added each year and construction is expected to continue for several more years. When completed, the Heber Valley Camp is expected to have the capacity to host over 5,000 campers at a time. While its primary purpose is to serve the Church's Young Women Camp program, it is also available to be used by other Church and family groups when not in use by the Young Women.

We will report to Camp on April 18, 2012 and serve until mid October.  (6 Months) and then be off for the next six months.  We will then report again in 2013 for another sis month Mission and possibly in 2014 if all goes well.  We will live in our Motor home while serving there.  We will be about an hour away from our youngest daughter and her family.  They will be able to visit us and spend the weekend in one of the cabins when they want to.

We are staying at Santee Lakes Campground and will be here until March 13th visiting all of our old friends, our oldest Daughter Danielle, My Twin Sister Sherry, and my Mom before heading for Utah.
